Kickstarter Social Media Campaign

In collaboration with Jeff Gaskill, a grammy nominated music producer, we were entrusted with the creation of captivating Facebook ads and an engaging social media campaign for the crowd funded album of the legendary gospel blues singer, Blind Willie Johnson. Our contribution extended to the development of a Kickstarter page, which served as the focal point for our ads. Thanks to this highly successful campaign, Jeff managed to raise an impressive $125k in just over a month. The culmination of our efforts resulted in the creation of “The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson” album. Artist that contributed to the album were Sinead O’Conner, Cowboy Junkies, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Luther Dickinson, Blind Boys of Alabama, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi and more. The album won a well-deserved grammy accolade.

Goal

I was approached by Jeff Gaskill, a Grammy-winning producer, to embark on an extraordinary project. My task was to craft captivating advertisements and launch a dynamic marketing campaign aimed at raising funds for an album that would showcase renowned artists uniting to pay homage to the timeless music of blues legend, Blind Willie Johnson. Our strategy centered around a Kickstarter project to raise the funds.

Approach

Working alongside Jeff Gaskill, a visionary in the music industry, I had the privilege of spearheading the creation of captivating online marketing ads and a compelling Kickstarter page for the Blind Willie Johnson record campaign. To bring this project to life, we enlisted award-winning illustrator, Marc Burckhardt to create the cover and campaign art capturing the essence of Blind Willie Johnson’s timeless music. I meticulously crafted ads tailored for maximum impact across various social media platforms. Strategically placed throughout the duration of the one-month campaign, these ads garnered widespread attention and generated tremendous support. As an exciting incentive to amplify donations, we collaborated with my partner, George Brin, the creative force behind String Tinkers. Utilizing the remaining wood from Blind Willie Johnson’s historic home, George artfully handcrafted five exquisite guitars. These one-of-a-kind instruments became prized possessions, enthralling music enthusiasts and inspiring their generous contributions to the campaign.

Results

We accomplished an astonishing feat by raising an impressive $125,000 in just over a month. This incredible achievement led to the creation of the sensational ‘The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson’ album, featuring an extraordinary lineup of renowned artists such as Sinead O’Conner, Cowboy Junkies, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Luther Dickinson, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, and many more. This album not only deeply touched the hearts of millions but also earned the well-deserved recognition of a prestigious Grammy award.
